Post MCM Blues

I hope everyone’s looking forward to the spooky week ahead of us!

Also, don’t forget to purchase membership if you haven’t already!

1. EVENTS THIS WEEK
FILM NIGHT Halloween, Monday 29th October, 18:00 – 21:00, Medical Sciences G46 (H O Schild Pharmacology LT)
I know the remake-quel is out in theatres, but here in Sci-Fi & Fantasy Society we like to keep it OG. By which I mean, the new sequel which is also a remake, and not the original sequel, released in 1978, the original remake of the sequel, released in 1998, or the original remake, released in 2007 or the remake sequel, released in 2009. Or the six additional films released in the interim period with various chronologies, timelines and genuinely the most confusing naming in Hollywood. Anyway, the main takeaway out of this is this film does not contain Busta Rhymes.

Every Monday during term we watch a film as a society. This week, we’re watching John Carpenter’s classic and the greatest slasher film of all-time, Halloween, due to the upcoming holiday named after this film.

BOARD GAMES, Wednesday 31st October, 18:00 – 21:00, Anatomy B15
Come along to our weekly boardgames sessions; from rookie to veteran, all levels of board game experience are welcome.
If you’d like to play a specific boardgame on the night, be sure to request it from Jo Winter! Just check here for the list of boardgames we own: https://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/uclsffs…

BOOK CLUB, Friday 2nd November, 18:00 – 20:00, Dillon’s Coffee (in Gower Street Waterstones)
This week we’ll be reading “Understand”, a short story about a regular person gaining heightened intelligence and an imagining of what that feels like.

(Story starts at ‘A layer of ice…’ paragraph 4)

Announcement: In two weeks’ time and over several weeks we’ll be discussing “Neuromancer” by William Gibson. This is a full-length novel that interested members will have to procure for themselves. The book has defined cyberpunk and is a dark, dystopian sci-fi story about a hacker doing one last job for a mysterious employer.

ALL DAY BOARDGAMES, Saturday 3rd November, 12:00 – 21:00, Chadwick G07
Boardgames all day! This will be the chance to play some of those longer games that can’t be contained within three hours. Feel free to drop in or leave at any time throughout the day. Just know that it will be our Halloween celebration, so come dressed in your best spooky regalia and join us for karaoke at Mully’s Basement Bar afterwards!
